Carey & Company, P.A. is a 12 person island-based CPA firm currently consisting of five CPA's, two staff accountants, two bookkeepers, 1 Payroll Specialist and support staff of two.

Patrick P. Carey, Jr., CPA - Partner 843-681-4430

Pat is a 1981 graduate of the University of Notre Dame and has been an island resident since 1977. He started his career at a large local accounting firm in Charleston, SC before moving to Hilton Head Island. He has over 35 years of experience in taxation and auditing, and opened Carey & Company, PA in 1991. The firm has since grown from a two person firm to a thirteen person firm with seven Certified Public Accountants, one staff accountant, three bookkeepers and a support staff of two.

Pat is the Treasurer for People for Parks, a member of the Hilton Head Island Rotary Club, past president of the Sea Island Chapter of CPA’s, a member of the American Institute of Certified Public Accounts, treasurer of the Notre Dame Alumni Club of Hilton Head and past board member of the South Carolina Association of Certified Public Accountants.

In his spare time, Pat stays active enjoying biking, swimming, yoga and playing basketball. He and his wife Mary live in Hilton Head Plantation.

Dean A. Cochenour, MBA, CPA - Principal 843-681-4430

Dean is a graduate of Ohio University and received his MBA from Capital University. Dean's diverse and extensive experience includes providing tax planning, compliance and consulting services to business owners and individuals. He has provided audit, tax and accounting services for businesses in the manufacturing, construction, distribution, retail and professional service industries. Prior to joining Carey & Company, P.A., he was a partner of a multi-office CPA firm in Ohio.

Dean is a member of the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants, South Carolina Association of Certified Public Accountants, Sea Island Chapter of CPAs and Ohio Society of Certified Public Accountants. Dean is a member and past president of the Kiwanis Club of Hilton Head Island.

Dean and his wife, Janet, live in Sea Pines Plantation and enjoy traveling, golf and biking.

Thomas J. Korzik, CPA - Manager 843-681-4430

Tom is a graduate of Seton Hall University in New Jersey and has over 30 years of experience in both public and private accounting. He joined the firm after moving full time to Hilton Head in 2013. He is a member of both the South Carolina and American Institutes of Certified Public Accountants.

Tom and his wife, Maureen, have owned a home in Port Royal Plantation since 2006. They both enjoy running, golf and traveling.

John Britschge, CPA - Manager 843-681-4430

John received his Bachelor of Science degree in Accounting from Nazareth College.

John became certified in New York State in 2002 and has over 20 years experience in public accounting. He was a partner of a CPA firm in Syracuse, NY where he performed tax, accounting and consulting services for a wide variety of business and individual clients.

John is a member of the AICPA SC Association of CPAs and Sea Island Chapter of CPAs .

John, his wife Angela and their four children relocated to Hilton Head in 2015 after vacationing on the island for the last six years. They have made their home in Shipyard Plantation.

John enjoys basketball, golf, fishing and relaxing at the beach.

Teri Rough - CPA 843-681-4430

Teri is a graduate of Auburn University where she received her undergraduate degree and master's degree in accounting. She passed all four sections of the CPA exam and is in the process of applying for her CPA license. Teri started her career at a large accounting firm in Tampa, FL, before joining the Carey & Company, P.A. team in Hilton Head Island, SC.

Teri is a member of the American Institute of Certified Public Accounts, Sea Island Chapter of CPAs, and the South Carolina Association of Certified Public Accountants.

Teri loves staying active in her spare time. Her favorite activities are playing with her dog, doing yoga, gardening, camping, and going on road trips.

Arthur H. Clephane, BSIM, MPA - Senior Accountant 843-681-4430

Art is a graduate of Georgia Tech with a bachelor's degree in Industrial Management and a Masters in Professional Accountancy from Georgia State. He worked for a large corporation, and for much of his career was involved in accounting and information technologies. He relocated to Hilton Head in 2005 and has worked for Carey & Company since 2007. He performs tax preparation for corporate, partnership, and individual clients. Additionally, he coordinates Information Technology support.

Art is a member of the SC Association of CPAs and Sea Island Chapter of CPAs.

Art currently is president of a property owners association in Sea Pines where he lives with his wife, Cheryl.

George Liggett - Staff Accountant 843-681-4430

George joined Carey & Company in February 2015 and is a 1980 graduate of St. Joseph’s College in Rensselaer, Indiana with a Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting. He passed the Illinois CPA Exam in 1990. George spent 30 years in the food distribution industry in various accounting fields as well as in operations management. He was also President and General Manager of a local niche food distributor in Chicago.

George began doing seasonal tax preparation in Hilton Head in 2011. George and his wife Mel, moved full time to the Island in 2012 from Chicago and reside in Sea Pines Plantation. They enjoy golf, biking and happy hour at the beach. They have two daughters, one in Chicago and one near Durham, NC that they enjoy visiting as often as possible. George is a huge fan of all Chicago sports teams.

Meredith Hay - Bookkeeper Manager 8436814430

Meredith Hay joined Carey & Company, P.A. in August 2018 with 20 years of bookkeeping and human resources experience.

Meredith is a licensed CPB (Certified Public Bookkeeper) and was owner of her own outsourced bookkeeping and office management firm for 10 years prior to joining Carey & Company, P.A. She is also certified in Quickbooks and is an active member of the National Association of Certified Public Bookkeepers.

Meredith is originally from Louisville, Kentucky and studied music at the University of Kentucky. In March of 2018, Meredith moved from Fort Thomas, KY and resides in Hilton Head Plantation with her husband, Mick Lewis and the youngest of their 4 children, Riley. She enjoys golf, nature watching and laughing as much as possible.

Candice Maldonado - Payroll Specialist 843-681-4430

Candice joined Carey and Company, P.A. in January 2019 with 15 years of bookkeeping/accounting experience, previously working for the State of South Carolina. She has a Bachelor's degree in Business Administration with a concentration in accounting and received her MBA from Limestone College in Gaffney, South Carolina in 2017.

Candice was raised in Illinois and moved to Beaufort, SC in 1996. She enjoys spending time with her two daughters and going to the beach.

Kelli Iams - Bookkeeper 843-681-4430

Kelli came to Carey & Company, P.A. in February of 2016 with 1-1/2 years of bookkeeping experience and 10 years of Management experience. She earned her Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration with a double concentration in accounting and management at the University of South Carolina.

Kelli graduated in May 2017. A short interim notwithstanding, she plans to obtain her Master’s Degree and become a CPA. Kelli is also a QuickBooks ProAdvisor and a notary public for the State of South Carolina.

Kelli was born and raised in a small town in Indiana. She decided to move to Hilton Head Island 13 years ago. Kelli loves to go kayaking.

Renee Williams - Office Manager 843-681-4430

Renee joined Carey & Company in December 2018 with over 30 years of accounting experience. She graduated from West Texas A & M University with a Bachelors degree in accounting. She is a a notary public for the State of South Carolina.

Renee is originally from Bowling Green, OH. In 2012, she moved from Flushing, MI to Hilton Head Island, SC. She enjoys kayaking, biking and walking the beach.

Denise Crow - Administrative Assistant/Receptionist 843-681-4430

Denise joined Carey & Company in 2014. She and her husband, Gary, relocated to Hilton Head Island from West Virginia after vacationing on the Island for 25 years. Denise worked as a supervisor of administrative services at Weirton Steel Corporation, administrative assistant in human resources at Weirton Medical Center, and as a secretary in the public school system of Brooke County in West Virginia .

Denise enjoys cheering on the Pittsburgh Steelers, WVU Mountaineers and the Pitt Panthers.

Denise and Gary have made their home in Palmetto Hall Plantation.
